With the wooden frame secured beneath sturdy branches, I layered thick clay over the walls for insulation and weatherproofing. Next came the grass roof—a true bushcraft classic. I gathered long, dry grasses and bundled them tightly, weaving each layer over flexible green saplings lashed to the frame. Overlapping like shingles, the grass shed rain beautifully. The tree’s canopy offered extra cover, blending my shelter seamlessly into the forest. Inside, the earthy scent of clay and dried grass created a cozy, primal calm. This natural refuge stood strong, simple, and perfectly wild—proof that with patience and nature’s gifts, you can build comfort from the ground up.
